Canisbay – the most northerly Polli:Nation school …

… would like to share lots of photos of their busy days planting and carrying out pollinator surveys and building a fabulous bug hotel. Marina and Paul the countryside rangers from Highlife Highland and Toni from Polli:Nation joined happy pupils on a blustery and fun day in April. After a long winter and late spring we were more than ready for action and planted about 80 native trees from the Woodland Trust, surveyed some of our quadrats (although the pollinators were not very evident) and built a multi-storey home to help insects have somewhere to take shelter.  More surveys to follow …

Year 2 have been working hard with their teacher, Mrs Farrington, on a pollinator display which reminds us of the wonderful work UK pollinators do.

We have bought and planted Bizzie Liz, Marigolds, Hydranger and Begonias. We painted the pallets to brighten up the area. It was a hard job but we managed to change our  play area into a colourful environment.

We had the fantastic opportunity to have Mrs Hawthorne in school talking about planting trees and told a great story about 'The man who planted trees'.   We have learned so much about the environment.
